SPORTTOTAL expands to Belgium

  • Partnership with Belgian football federation
  • sporttotal.tv to broadcast games from the 3rd division with 16 clubs
  • Three markets outside Germany to be developed within 12 months

Cologne/Luxembourg, 17 June 2019. SPORTTOTAL AG is expanding to Belgium: With its Luxembourg-based subsidiary SPORTTOTAL International SA, the company is commencing its internationalisation directly after having established the international holding. Its first partner will be the first Belgian amateur division (3rd division). By September 2019, all 16 amateur football clubs in the first Belgian amateur division are to have been equipped with special video technology which enables sports events to be transmitted live in a high quality and fully automatically using the new “sporttotal.tv” platform. The games are also available as videos on demand on the sporttotal.tv platform. “We are delighted that we can make a start with Belgium as our first European market. We can create a compelling showcase by quickly and fully equipping at the level of a division,” says Jean Fuchs, SPORTTOTAL International SA’s Chairman. “In addition, we will forge ahead concertedly with our European expansion,” emphasises Gerrit Heidemann who is in charge of SPORTTOTAL’s expansion. The aim is to set up operations in a total of three countries within the next 12 months. Cécile Violleau, who heads up business development for sporttotal.tv in Belgium, also sees “a great deal of potential still – both in terms of other divisions in Belgium, as well as with interested sponsors and advertising partners”.

First contract with a football federation outside Germany

“The idea of making amateur football so attractive for a large target group, whether on the smart phone, tablet or a large flat screen at home, filled us with enthusiasm. We have compared a number of solutions and are completely convinced about our choice of sporttotal.tv. The quality, professionalism and the potential, such as performance statistics and value-added services, were determining factors. Amateur football will therefore be presented a great deal more attractively than ever before. We take some pride in being the first division outside Germany to make this move,” says Stéphane Georges, President of the Ligue Nationale. “The first contract with a football Federation outside Germany marks a genuine milestone for us,” comments Peter Lauterbach, SPORTTOTAL AG’s CEO.
